Delft, circa 1680-85

Painted on either side in blue with a river scene, one depicting a man leaning over two buckets before the rigging of a ship and distant houses, the other with two ducks swimming near Italianate towers on the near bank, both within a yellow scroll-edged cartouche reserved on a blue ground embellished with peony blossoms and leaves, the white-ground low front and the pale blue ‘cracked-ice’-patterned high back each with a flowering peony branch, and the interior fitted with a seat.
