•D0875. Blue and White Plate
Delft, circa 1690
Marked AK in blue for Adrianus Kocx, the owner of De Grieksche A (The Greek A) factory from 1686 to 1701
Painted with a central branch of flowering peonies within a wide peony blossom and foliate-scroll border.
Diameter: 22.7 cm. (8 7/8 in.)
Provenance:
The Dr. Günther Grethe Collection, Hamburg
Similar example:
A footed dish with a chinoiserie scene in the center and the mark of Samuel van Eenhoorn, but with an identical peony border, is illustrated by Van Aken-Fehmers, Delfts Aardewerk, Vol. I, pp. 73 and 90, no. 1, suggesting that this plate probably dates from early in the Adriaen Kocx production at De Grieksche A.
