D1728. Pair of Cashmere Palette Reeded Ovoid Vases and Covers
Delft, circa 1710
Each decorated on the ovoid body with four elongated panels painted in blue, iron-red and green with different scenes of exotic birds in flight, or perched on flowering branches beside rock work and flowering shrubbery within a flowering vine border, the panels separated by oval cartouches of dark manganese mythical beasts, the shoulder of the vase decorated with a floral band of garlands and tasseled ribbons, interrupted by panels with a rooster, repeated on the lower body, the covers with two large oval shaped panels painted with birds near flowering branches, rock work and shrubbery separated by smaller oval panels of manganese beasts all between iron-red herringbone-patterned bands and below the pear-shaped knop.
