D1859. Pair of Polychrome Petit Feu Figures of Prancing Horses

Delft, circa 1790

Each with an iron-red and black-spotted hide and facial features, black mane and twisted tail affixed with yellow and iron-red florets, wearing a flamed iron-red saddle over a black saddle blanket patterned with iron- red and yellow foliate scrollwork, and an iron-red net with a yellow band and light green tassels across the back, modeled affronté, standing with one black hoof raised above the light green top of a rectangular base with canted sides marbleized in yellow, black and iron-red.
